Work Program Summary
The Okanagan is home to many scenic parks and attractions. Many of these parks are a remarkable combination of natural features, stunning scenery, important cultural heritage and outstanding recreation opportunities. However, population growth in the area places tremendous pressure on the conservation values inherent with these parks - degrading Wildlife corridors and functional habitat for threatened and endangered species. Ecoscape has participated in several environmental parks master planning projects for the City of Kelowna and Regional District Central Okanagan. For these projects, Ecoscape provided an up-to-date assessment and incorporated recent environmental information collected in Wildlife and habitat studies to assist in the development of sustainable land use plan for ongoing and future park planning and development. To meet this objective, Ecoscape focused many elements to more accurately describe the natural components of the park and to highlight avenues for improved environmental conditions. Ecoscape developed an Environmental Sensitivity Index for the park and subsequently developed a recommended park zoning plan concept that will allow for continued recreational use while achieving a minimal environmental impact.
