Work Program Summary

Ecoscape was part of a multi disciplinary team hired by the City of Kelowna to provide environmental services for downtown waterfront park improvements along the shore of Okanagan Lake. Ecoscape and the design team received the Bronze for Urban Design in the 2010 Design Exchange Award for this project. The Downtown Waterfront Parks Plan (DWPP) project was significant in scope and had to consider a multitude of uses and interests for residents of the municipality. Ecoscape'€™s primary role was to provide biological and environmental consulting services to the City and the design consultants to help minimize impacts on aquatic and Wildlife habitats as a result of proposed park improvements. Ecoscape worked closely with the design team to provide designs and guidelines for a substantial foreshore restoration. The works also included preparing project specific mitigation plans, such as details for installation of a silt curtain to isolate the foreshore area, a fish salvage within the isolated area, monitoring of construction work near the foreshore area (e.g., sandblasting), and monitoring of landscaping activities (e.g., installation of erosion control fabric, riparian plantings). Ecoscape worked closely onsite with contractors to ensure the desired restoration habitat objectives were achieved.
